Hope In Music

Memory With Mom The first song I remember having a strong connection with is  “Dallas” by Alan Jackson , a country artist from the 1990s. My mother was and still is a huge fan of Alan Jackson. Anytime one of his songs comes on the radio, I’m instantly taken back to car rides with her on the way to Spartanburg, to my grandmother’s house, to church, or to various appointments, singing along at the top of her lungs. Those moments bring back many happy memories of my mother’s joy and warmth, especially from the time before my father passed away. Another memory that always comes to mind is her asking me whether I understood what Alan Jackson’s lyrics meant and reminding me that I should try to live my life by those messages. Hello everyone! I'm Rebekah Rogers, and I am currently a senior at Converse University. I started getting involved in music through the church choir, and then started playing the clarinet in the 6th-grade band. I didn't really take learning the clarinet seriously, mostly because I constantly had band directors come in and out of the school. When college came around, my first semester of college, I wasn't a music major and was undecided. Once I got involved with some of the music activities at Limestone, I started to really like the clarinet again and just grew more in love with music since. I also started learning the saxophone on my own, my first year of college, and just found myself loving that instrument as well. I am now a woodwind instructor at Chesnee High School and have more passion for music through teaching woodwind groups during marching band and concert band seasons.
